About the Founder
Lisa has been providing educational programs to the public about animals and other natural history subjects since 1993. Her engaging style captivates audiences. Lisa translates life & earth sciences into truly entertaining education. Focusing on the role of reptiles (and humans) in the natural world, she offers everyone a memorable experience with Living Earth Reptile Encounters!
Thousands of students and adults alike have participated in hands-on Living Earth Encounters with live reptiles and amphibians. As a naturalist and herpetoculturist, Lisa is passionate about reptiles and amphibians – plus many other zoological subjects, such as rodents & other mammals, birds, fish, invertebrates, dinosaurs and other prehistoric life!
Earth science is a passion too – with a BS degree in Geology from the University of Pittsburgh, Lisa works in the GIS & Photogrammetry industry (Geographical Information Systems), where she has 16 years experience in making digital 2D & 3D maps.
She creates programs for STEM & STEAM - in geology, rocks, minerals, gems & other crystals, as well as geography, cartography (map making), and GIS!
Lisa provides programs for summer camps, nature centers, parks, festivals, schools, and even universities! A past Museum Educator with the Carnegie Museum of Natural History - Living Earth Reptile Encounters provided a living link to the museum's collections, appearing in many of the museum's camps and classes.
Lisa founded the Reptile and Amphibian Society of Pittsburgh (RASP), in 2010 to support a perceived need for detailed care and community amongst reptile and amphibian keepers & breeders in the region. She also participates in reptile rescue, and relocation of reptiles from people's yards. She held multiple leadership positions in prior clubs as well: the Tri-State Herpetological Society & the Pittsburgh Herpetological Society, going back to 1997.
Likewise, Lisa founded a national online group for exotic rodent pet keepers (US Exotic Rodent Association – USERA) to share pet care & breeding info, as well as connections between breeders and pet owners of small exotic and rare pet rodents – from pygmy mice to capybara!
A founding member of a local rodent hobbyist association, the Greater Pittsburgh Fancy and Exotic Rodent Association (GP-FERA), Lisa is also a member of the American Gerbil Society (AGS). She is an active pet rodent enthusiast and breeder of Mongolian gerbils, Chinese hamsters, and other exotic rodents. Check out her Living Earth Rodentry website too!
As an artist interested in studying ancient history, Lisa loves historical reenactment groups like the SCA, and subjects like archaeology, anthropology, mythology, and ancient pagan religions. This also contributes towards a passion for her spiritual path - ADF Druidry.
Lisa's background and engaging style with audiences of all ages and abilities offers everyone a memorable interactive experience. This is the primary goal of Living Earth Reptile Encounters. Book your event today!
