School Programs
Are you looking for a fun and educational program for your students? If so, then allow Living Earth Reptile Encounters to bring the field trip into your classroom. We offer a variety of programs and demonstrations focusing on snakes, lizards, turtles, and other fascinating animals.
These exciting, innovative programs encourage awareness and promote positive interaction with herps and their environment through rescue and rehabilitation, education, and captive breeding. Programs spotlight herps and the many problems they face in the modern world. Because of their unique position in the ecosystem, they are extremely effective barometers of our environment: they are easily affected by changes to their natural habitat due to habitat destruction, fragmentation, pollution, and unregulated exploitation.
Interactive lessons and activities develop critical thinking concerning man’s impact on the environment. Extinction is a prime example – what is man’s role in the modern environment, when the world is experiencing a species extinction rate of 50-150 species per day?
From individual classes to school wide assemblies, students receive a fantastic educational experience. The animals will give students a chance to learn in a manner they just can’t get with print, film, or the internet. Each program includes a selection of live animals, including the common, rare, colorful, and bizarre. Also included are teaching tools such as posters, overheads, pictures, and diagrams - as well as touchable items like shed skins, bones, whole skeletons, and even “mummies”!
All programs are custom-tailored to the class size, grade, curriculum, and teaching format, for a personalized touch. With a selection of animals from around the globe, these programs are just as valuable a tool for teaching geography as they are for science. (For other unusual applications, check out the section, “Herps in Unexpected Classrooms”.)
All Living Earth programs fulfill the Pennsylvania Department of Education Academic Standards for Environment and Ecology, as well as Science and Technology.
There will definitely be a topic that will rouse the curiosity of yourself and your students!
